Georgia Southern University offers Professional Seminars for PHR/SPHR Credit

STATESBORO, Ga. – January 15, 2015– Georgia Southern University now offers Human Resources seminars in Savannah, Ga., at the Coastal Georgia Center and in Brunswick, Ga., at HunterMaclean Brunswick, beginning in February and continuing through May, 2015.

Upon completing any Legal Awareness in the Workplace (LAW) seminar, you’ll receive 1.5 credit hours toward PHR, SPHR or GPHR recertification that complies with the rules of the HR Certification Institute. The fee is $59 for individuals and $55 each for four or more per firm.

The course instructors are partner attorneys in the Savannah office of HunterMaclean. Each instructor was included in The Best Lawyers in America® 2015.

LAW 108: Georgia Employment Law Instructor Sarah Lamar will cover various Georgia employment law topics, including the creation of at-will and contract employment, negligent supervision/retention of employees, defamation in the context of employment references, and workplace privacy. Running Tuesday, Feb. 3 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center, the seminar will explore Georgia discrimination and compensation laws in light of their federal counterparts.

LAW 127: Developing An In-Depth Understanding of the FMLA Instructor Wade W. Herring will help participants develop an in-depth understanding of the intricacies of the FMLA and how it affects their firm. Through the seminar, they will learn strategies for dealing with complicated employee leave issues. The seminar is on Tuesday, March 10, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Brunswick, Ga., at HunterMaclean Brunswick.
LAW 123: Social Media Use – What Employers Should Know Cover the risks and rules of social media in a work place setting. Attorney Shawn Kachmar will give a practical review of applicable statutes and regulations to help participants choose policies for their firms. The seminar is on Tuesday April 21, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at the Coastal Georgia Center in downtown Savannah, Ga.

LAW 122: From Hiring to Termination — Effective Employee Management Review every major HR step to ensure employees are processed legally and treated fairly within a firm. Instructor Sarah Lamar will help you learn how to follow pre-hire procedures, handle discipline issues, investigate employees’ at-work accidents, deal with harassment claims and properly process discharging employees. The seminar is on Tues. May 19, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at HunterMaclean Brunswick in downtown Brunswick, Ga.
