SAT Preparation – Savannah

SUMMER CLASSES

SAT MATH PREP

Dates: Monday – Friday, August 10-14, 2015
Time: 3 to 5 p.m.
Location: Coastal Georgia Center, Savannah, GA
Cost: $160 per person

This one-week (5- day) series focuses on thinking strategies and skill development needed for maximizing scores on the math portion of the SAT. We will review the use of various formulas essential to solving problems and receive information on effective strategies for increasing the likelihood of answering problems correctly. There will be practice tests in class, as well as learning exercises for relieving test anxiety.

The 2nd Edition Study Guide will be used through 2015.
The Official SAT Study Guide, Second Edition by College Board, is required for this class. The guide is available at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.

FALL CLASSES

SAT PREP FOR CRITICAL READING, VOCABULARY, AND WRITING

Dates: Mondays, September 28 – November 2, 2015
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Coastal Georgia Center, Savannah, GA
Cost: $160 per person

This 6-week course focuses on strategies used in active reading that pertain specifically to the SAT, and addresses writing strategies used on possible topics during the writing portion. While improving their vocabulary (roots, prefixes, word in context), students will learn to identify key words, recognize main ideas/themes, draw conclusions and make inferences. The writing process will be emphasized and students will practice timed writing sessions to prepare for the reading and writing portions of the SAT. By improving these skills, students will be able to approach the SAT with confidence and the necessary tools for optimal results.

Cancellation Policy:
If you must withdraw from a class, please notify the registration office by phone, e-mail, or in person. If you notify the registrar at least one working day prior to the beginning of class, you may:
1. Send another student in your place.
2. Transfer your tuition to another class, provided that the second class occurs within six months of the original one.
3. Receive a tuition refund, less a $15 withdrawal fee.
No tuition refunds or transfers will be made after the class begins.

satFoxCRITICAL READING FOR THE SAT
Edna Fox, an experienced, award-winning educator, has served as Language Arts Chairperson at Windsor Forest High School and at Saint Vincent’s Academy in Savannah. She has taught English literature/language to students in all middle school and high school levels. For twenty years, she taught Advanced Placement English Literature. She has been recognized as Savannah/Chatham County’s Star Teacher and Teacher of the Year numerous times. Additionally she has taught various courses in English at Armstrong State University.

Aubrey Brawner has taught math for thirty years and currently teaches at Savannah Country Day School where she is also Chair of the Math Department. She has taught and tutored math at all levels from fifth grade through college calculus courses and works with students to help them identify their strengths and weaknesses so that they can find success.
