MATH PREP FOR THE SAT

This course gives students the necessary practice, thinking strategies and skills development needed for maximizing scores on the math portion of the SAT. They will review the use of various formulas essential to solving problems and receive information on effective strategies for increasing the likelihood of answering problems correctly. They will take practice tests in class and instruction will be student centered with the goal of improving SAT math scores and ease test anxiety.

Students are encouraged to purchase The Official SAT Study Guide, 2nd edition. Approximate cost $13

CRITICAL READING AND WRITING PREP FOR THE SAT

This face to face course focuses on strategies in active reading that pertain specifically to the SAT, as well as, addressing strategies and possible topics for the writing portion. While improving their vocabulary (roots, prefixes, word in context), students will learn to identify key words, recognize main ideas/themes, draw conclusions and make inferences. The writing process will be emphasized and timed writing sessions will be used to help students know what to expect. By improving these skills, students will be able to approach the SAT with confidence and the necessary tools for optimal results.

Cancellation Policy:
If you must withdraw from a class, please notify the registration office by phone, e-mail, or in person. If you notify the registrar at least one working day prior to the beginning of class, you may:
1. Send another student in your place.
2. Transfer your tuition to another class, provided that the second class occurs within six months of the original one.
3. Receive a tuition refund, less a $15 withdrawal fee.
No tuition refunds or transfers will be made after the class begins.

Instructors

STATESBORO: CRITICAL READING AND WRITING PREP FOR THE SAT
Kim Burnette has been teaching and tutoring students for 26 years. She earned her undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University, her Masters from Oglethorpe University, and her Leadership Certificate from the University of Georgia. She currently teaches 10th grade English at Bulloch Academy and serves also as Curriculum Coordinator. She loves helping children succeed and feel confident about taking tests and doing their best!

SAVANNAH: CRITICAL READING AND WRITING PREP FOR THE SAT
Edna Fox, an experienced, award-winning educator, has served as Language Arts Chairperson at Windsor Forest High School and at Saint Vincent’s Academy in Savannah. She has taught English literature/language to students in all middle school and high school levels. For twenty years, she taught Advanced Placement English Literature. She has been recognized as Savannah/Chatham County’s Star Teacher and Teacher of the Year numerous times. Additionally she has taught various courses of English at Armstrong State University.

STATESBORO: MATH PREP FOR THE SAT
Margaret Stewart has 30 years combined experience tutoring and teaching mathematics. She holds an undergraduate degree and a graduate degree in math education. She has experience in tutoring and teaching elementary mathematics, middle school mathematics, high school mathematics and college level mathematics. She has also helped students to prepare for the math portion of the SAT. She finds great delight in instilling confidence in students as they learn the skills to perform successfully in their academic work and preparing for the SAT exam.

SAVANNAH: MATH PREP FOR THE SAT
Catherine Dickey has 32 years of experience in math instruction and curriculum development. She has served as the Director of Mathematics for The Savannah/Chatham County Public School System and also as the Mathematics Endorsement Certification Instructor for the Metro Regional Education Service Association (RESA) and Chatham County schools. She has received the Georgia Roundtable Award for Excellence in mathematics instruction and been a candidate for the Georgia Presidential Award for excellence in Mathematics and Science instruction.
