SAT Prep for Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary

This course focuses on strategies used in active reading that pertains specifically to the SAT and addresses writing strategies used on possible topics during the writing portion of this test. While improving vocabulary (roots, prefixes, word in context), students will learn to identify key words, recognize main ideas/themes, draw conclusions and make inferences. The writing process will be emphasized, and students will practice timed writing sessions to prepare for the reading and writing portions of the SAT. By improving these skills, students will be able to approach the SAT with confidence and the necessary tools for optimal results.

The Official SAT Study Guide, 2018, Edition, by College Board is required for this class, ISBN #978 145 7309 281.  This book has a BLUE cover.   This guide is available at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.

SAT Prep for Math

This course focuses on thinking strategies and skill development needed for maximizing scores on the math portion of the SAT. We will review the use of various formulas essential to solving problems and discuss effective strategies for increasing the likelihood of answering problems correctly.

Instructors

Albert Nordine

Albert Nordine has taught high school mathematics and SAT test preparation here Savannah at local private schools. He is presently teaching Geometry at Saint Vincent’s Academy. Mr. Nordine has both extensive classroom experience and one-on-one tutoring experience. He has taught SAT, ACT, and ASVAB standardized test taking. Mr. Nordine holds a BA degree from the University of Miami.

Edna Fox

Edna Fox has been an educator for 40 years.  During that time she has served as Language Art Chairperson at Windsor Forest High School and at Saint Vincent’s Academy.  She has taught English literature/language to all levels of students in all of the middle school and high school levels. She has also taught Advanced Placement English Literature for 20 years and thus is very familiar with improving test taking skills for the College Board. During that time she has been recognized as Star Teacher and Teacher of the Year numerous times.  She has taught various courses of English at Armstrong State University.

Sarah Stanic

Ms. Stanic graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in Education in Mathematics Education. She currently works at St. Vincent’s Academy where she has taught Honors and CP Geometry, CP Algebra 2, and CP Precalculus. This year she is teaching Honors and CP Algebra 1 and Honors and CP Precalculus.
