SESSION FORMAT

Presentation Session: 45 minutes
Presentation Sessions are focused, interactive sessions with clear objectives and learning outcomes for the participants. Presentation sessions typically include a combination of lecture, visual aids, and exercises promoting interaction with participants. Presenters from individual or teams of k12, private, public and/or higher education will interact with participants about strategies they have implemented and/or studied that work in their classrooms.

Conference Session: 20 minutes
A traditional conference session presentation. Presentations of teaching or research ideas in progress or final project reports are examples of appropriate submissions for this category; these session presenters are encouraged to submit their work to the Proceedings of the STEM Teaching and Learning Conference. Papers presented at the conference are eligible to be submitted to the second annual Proceedings of the Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching and Learning Conference. All manuscripts submitted will undergo a double blind review process prior to publication.

Workshop: 90 minutes
A workshop contains a great degree of attendee participation, interaction, and hands-on exercises, where participants both practice and learn the knowledge and skills that is the workshop’s focus. Workshops tend to be smaller and more intense than seminars and typically involve participants doing work on a particular issue during the program. The promise is that when they leave, they’ll have at least a rough plan or tools in place to address the challenge. Teams of educators from k12 and/or higher education are encouraged to submit workshop proposals around strategies tried, outcomes achieved and implementation strategies and planning for participants to replicate in their classroom environments.

Poster Session: 90 minutes – Thursday Evening Only
Poster presentations are research presentations for STEM and STEM education topics. An ideal setting to share investigations and research limitations for papers presented or published in 2018 Conference Proceedings. Poster Sessions will be held Thursday evening. Posters will remain available for viewing the duration of the conference. At the designated poster session, the presenters need to be with their posters to discuss them with people examining the posters.

PROPOSAL TRACK

R: Research in STEM Education: specific teaching and student learning (in classroom, online, or blended contexts) in an education context and the research questions, methodologies, evidence, analyses, results, implications, and applications. It must be indicated in the proposal (and finalized abstract) if the presentation is about a research project in progress, or if is about a completed research project.

  • R1: Projects in Process: research projects currently being conducted, proposed, or investigated
  • R2: Completed Projects: projects that have been completed and the results.

T: Teaching: the nature, role and meaning of the of STEM teaching and learning at all education levels; STEM integration into the classroom and/or recognition in academic cultures; how to initiate and develop projects in classrooms from elementary to college; ways to promote, foster and support those engaging in such activities; how interdisciplinary STEM can directly improve student learning outcomes; the problems and benefits of international collaboration, and many other possibilities.

  • T1: Teaching and Learning in the STEM Field: formal and informal educational experiences, etc.
  • T2: Applied STEM Education: Authentic learning, addressing standards, collaborating across disciplines and working with community partners, PBL, interdisciplinary STEM, etc.
