Fiber Optics Training Increases Career-Change Options
STATESBORO, Ga. – August 24, 2015 – Are you currently working or planning a career in security, surveillance, computer networking, telephone systems or cable television installation? Georgia Southern University offers career-building certified fiber optic technician and specialist fast-track courses this fall at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, Georgia.
The need for trained Certified Fiber Optic Technicians has grown exponentially over the past 5 years throughout the US – according to Bob Ballard from BDI Datalink. Not only has the demand for high speed broadband increased, but also the need for a reliable and secure method of transporting this data has become absolutely necessary.
The FOA reports that most Certified Fiber Optics Technicians work in the fiber optics industry as contractors or installers. Consultants, network designers and managers, component manufacturing technicians, estimators and trainers are often expected to have this credential.
In partnership with BDI Datalink, Georgia Southern University will offer three certification courses in Fiber Optics technology. The courses prepare participants for the broad-based Fiber Optic Association (FOA) exam that requires verified skills in fiber optics and covers technology, components, installation and testing.
Each course fee also includes study materials, CD, and the textbook FOA Reference Guide to Fiber Optics by Jim Hayes. All courses end with the related FOA certification exam, included in the course fee.
Daily coursework for all classes involves hands-on activities, discussion and chapter tests.
Many participants register to take two or three fiber optics courses across the week-long training. The Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) course, set for Monday, Sept. 28 through Wednesday, Sept. 30. The CFOT course fee is $725.The Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing and Maintenance (CFOS/T) course runs Thursday, Sept. 31 to Friday, Oct. 1 and costs $700.
