    Academic Standing
    http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/fye/academic_standng.htm

A student is in good academic standing if she or he has a total institution grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above. A student whose total institution GPA falls below 2.0 will be subject to the policies listed at the URL provided.

Attendance Policy - Deleting Classes First Day for Non-Attendance
    http://students.georgiasouthern.edu/registrar/AttendancePolicy.htm
University policy requires all students to attend the first class meeting of all classes for which they are registered. Students who do not attend the first class meeting of a course for which they are registered will be dropped from the course. This policy applies to all levels (undergraduate and graduate) of courses. It is the student’s responsibility to verify course drops and check that fees are adjusted.
    Course Registration Follow-Up
Students register during designated times each semester. Students who do not register within that period will be contacted by their advisor. This follow-up occurs during November for spring registration and March for fall registration.
Effects of Withdrawing from a Course
    http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/fye/withdrawing.htm

Withdrawing is exiting a course after the drop/add period concludes, which is typically the fourth day of classes in a 15-week semester. When students withdraw before the established deadline (roughly the 40th class day of the semester), they are not assessed an academic penalty.  Be forewarned, however, withdrawing can create significant problems. You should only withdraw from a course after consulting with your instructor, academic advisor and financial aid counselor.

Although frequently called “dropping a course,” withdrawing is different from dropping.  Drops occur during the drop/add period and never become part of a student’s academic record.  In contrast, withdrawals are permanent entries into your record.

For reasons to avoid withdrawing from a course see the URL provided.
    Freshman Midterm Grades
Before the mid-point of each semester (and before the last day to drop without academic penalty), faculty submit a progress grade of Satisfactory (“S”—equivalent of “C” or better or work) or Unsatisfactory (“U”—less than “C” work) for each freshman enrolled in their classes. Freshmen check their midterm grades through My.GeorgiaSouthern and follow-up on any “U” grades by speaking first with your professor and then meeting with your advisor.
    Regents Exam

http://students.georgiasouthern.edu/registrar/regents_brochure.pdf Board of Regents policy (§ 307 of the Policy Manual) states that students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs leading to the baccalaureate degree must pass the Regents’ Reading Skills and Regents’ Writing Skills courses as a requirement for graduation. Students may exempt these courses through examination by passing the Regents’ Reading Test and the Regents’ Essay Test. See the Regents Test Brochure (URL provided) for other exceptions.

Students who do not exempt from the exams will be registered for the appropriate Regents Exam within the first two weeks of the term.

    Registration Terminology
    http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/fye/academics_terms.htm
See this URL for a list of important registration terms that you should know.
    Time to Degree
15-16 credit hours is a normal course load for fall and spring semesters that will enable most students to graduate in four years. According to the U.S. Department of Education’s “The Toolbox Revisited” (2006), students who complete 4 or more credit hours during summer terms are consistently more likely to graduate.
