Navigating in Jaws

There are many different keystrokes in Jaws that will allow a disabled person to navigate quickly when they enter a Web page. These are some of the simple keystrokes. Feel free to print these out if you would like to try to evaluate your page with Jaws and see how easy it is to move about your Web site!

Basic Navigation:

Enter = Go to link you are on, initiate applications.
CTRL = Makes Jaws stop speaking.
ESC = Get out of one of the numerous modes (Jaws has forms mode and table mode, among others).
Page down = Slows down the pace of Jaws speaker.
Page up = Speeds up the pace of Jaws speaker.
Insert and Up arrow = Makes Jaws speak that specific word or element.
Insert and Down arrow = Makes Jaws speak all of whatever section of the page you are in.

Controls to navigate through the page using Headers:

Insert and F1 = Explains how headings are used on the page.
H = Go to next Heading.
Shift and H = Go to previous Heading.
Insert and F6 = List all Headings.
Down arrow = Goes to next heading, press Enter to move to it on the page.

Controls to navigate through the page using Paragraphs:

P = Moves to next paragraph.
Shift and P = Moves to previous paragraph.
Left arrow = Moves to the previous line.
Right arrow = Moves to the next line.

Controls to navigate through the page using links:

Insert and F7 = List the links on the page.
Down arrow = Go through the links.
Tab = Skips from link to link down the page in order.
u = Go to unvisited links.
v = Go to visited links.
