Web Page Accessibility Office

The Center for Excellence in Teaching applied for and received an accessibility grant from Southeast Disability and Business Technical Assistance Center (SEDBTAC) located at Georgia Institute of Technology. The grant is funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) of the U.S. Department of Education under grant #H133D010207. For the past ten years, the Southeast DBTAC has provided assistance to individuals with disabilities, businesses, schools, state and local government agencies, and employers on their rights and responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. With new five-year funding from NIDRR beginning on October 1, 2001, the focus of activities has expanded to include facilitating widespread use of accessible and useable electronic and information technology in educational environments.

As a result of the grant, Georgia Southern University was able to set up a Web site that to address Web site accessibility issues. The site serves as a central repository for tools, techniques and other resources used to make Web pages accessible to people with disabilities. Creating accessible Web sites not only enhances accessibility for people with disabilities, it enhances the usability of sites in general for everyone. Web page accessibility guidelines foster good Web page construction techniques.
